The AK 47 assault rifle is available in large quantities due to the Russian government policy of mass production of firearms during the Cold War period from 1946 to 1989. The Russians had wanted to rule the world through military might and power to induce communist tyranny on the countries and peoples that opposed opposed communist. To do this they had to build up their forces to a point of overwhelming strength, not only in nuclear arms, but also in warships, airplanes, tanks and ground troops. The main and most significant weapon for the individual of the ground forces would of course be the AK-47 assault weapon. It was estimated at the peak of the Cold War build up that the Soviet strength remained between 2.8 million to 5.3 million men and of course each one would have to have an AK-47 available to them. So many are still in service today due to the incredible simplicity, effectiveness and ruggedness of the weapon.
• The low production and materials costs of the Russian AK47 assault rifle meant that the Soviet Union could produce and supply friendly states instead of sending surplus munitions. The result of this is that the Cold War saw the mass exportation, sometimes free of charge, of AK-47's by the Soviet Union and Communist China to pro-communist countries and armies such as the Nicaraguan Sandinista's and the Vietcong. The AK 47 design was spread to over 55 national armies and dozens of para-military groups.
• The Chinese government started its own mass production of the Russian AK47 assault weapon and as a result also lowered the costs substantially that many people from around the world started buying the cheaper Chinese versions. The World Bank estimates that out of the 500 million total weapons available worldwide, 100 million are of the Kalashnikov family, and 75 million of which are AK-47s.
• We have mentioned the incredible simplicity, effectiveness and ruggedness of the Russian AK47 assault rifle in our first point, so let us explore this in further detail. The Russian AK47 is an excellent assault rifle in terms of the ease and simplicity of use. It is amazing how quickly one can learn to use it as an deadly weapon, even from the simple villager all the way up to the most seasoned veteran soldier. The maintenance that is required is rudimentary and not as time intensive as the AK47’s counterparts. It has a proven record of service in many types of combat theaters of operation, from the deserts of the Middle East to the mountains of Afghanistan (used by both Soviet Union soldiers and Afghan rebels) to the jungles of Vietnam and the arctic cold of Siberia.
• Many criminal gangs started to adopt the AK-47 assault rifle as their weapon of choice... such as in Mexico. The AK47 assault weapon is known as "Cuerno de Chivo" (literally "goat's horn) and is often associated with drug cartels and the local mafia. The AK 47 has also become an icon to many people of the world. It is included in the flag of Mozambique and its coat of arms, which acknowledges that the country's leaders gained power in by using the Russian AK47 with such effectiveness. It is easy to see why the AK47 has become the most used assault rifle in the world by the overwhelming production, distribution, low cost, availability and overall effectiveness in many different countries.
Why the 2nd Amendment is so significant to our freedom
The 2nd Amendment creates part of the Bill of Rights of the United States of America. This particular amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms which means that the people has the right to bear firearms and guns for their defense, their own state, or the United States, and of course to hunt game. It forbids any law to be passed with the aim of disarming the people unless a crime has been committed, or they pose a real danger to the public. Until this day, the 2nd Amendment still stands despite the censorship of its detractors and seems that it will be staying for good under the protection of the Bill of
Rights. When it was first drafted, the idea is to have a universal militia during the 1790’s because it is very expensive for the government to bring guns to all of the members of the militia. They say that this right originated from the English courts where the king requires his subjects to bear firearms and guns for military duty. During that time, they don’t have a regular army and police force so certain men had to keep watch and ward at night to keep the peace in the communities, hence the need to keep an assault rifle and firearms in the house of certain men. These men are tasked to ward off thieves and to capture and confront suspicious persons.
The only difference is, the 2nd Amendment does not discriminate against social classes unlike with the English where only the wealthy are able to bear firearms. It should also be emphasized that in arming the militia with guns, which is a natural defense of any free country against invasions, or any uprising that will jeopardize the peace and democracy in a country, the right against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers within or outside the country can be impede and eventually discouraged. Some historians and philosophers say and believe that injustice in a country will be exerted unless forcibly resisted. Having the right to bear firearms gives the ammunition to make sure that injustice does not happen – figuratively and literally speaking. With the advancement in technological warfare, the classes of guns supported by the 2nd amendment have also grown in number. It includes Ak47,
Ar15 and M16 assault riffles. The registration method has also improved with all the requirements necessary for a person to get hold of a gun. There are also individuals who are prohibited from carrying a gun because the court does not see them fit to carry a firearm that may cause destruction to a multitude of people. Even if the 2nd Amendment was created to further the rights and liberty of the people, it can also very easily cause the violation of the rights of people facing the other end of the barrel. Despite this possibility, the 2nd Amendment has done more good than harm to the people and the state. There are enough guidelines to keep it and its consequences in check. All in all, it has promoted liberty and uphold the rights of the people.
