The StG44 (Sturmgewehr 44 or "assault rifle model 1944") was an assault rifle  developed in Nazi Germany during World War II and was the first of its kind to see major deployment. It is also known under the designations MP43 and MP44...(Maschinenpistole 43, Maschinenpistole 44 respectively), which denotes earlier development versions of the same weapon. MP43, MP44, and StG44 were different designations for what was essentially the same rifle, with minor updates in production.  

The variety in the naming formats resulted from complicated circumstances in Germany in World War II. Developed from the Mkb 42 (H) "machine carbine", the StG44 combined the characteristics of a carbine, sub-machine gun and automatic rifle. StG is an abb. of  the Sturmgewehr assault rifle. The name was chosen for the propaganda reasons and literally means storm rifle as in "to storm an enemy position" (i.e. "assault", leading to the modern terminology "assault rifle"). After the adoption of the StG44, the English translation "assault rifle" became the accepted designation for this type of infantry small arm. The rifle was chambered for the 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridge, also known as 7.92 mm Kurz (German for "short"). This shorter version of the German standard (7.92x57mm Mauser) rifle round, in combination with the weapon's selective-fire design, provided a compromise between the controllable firepower of a submachine gun at close quarters with the accuracy and power of a Karabiner 98k bolt action rifle at intermediate ranges. While the StG44 had less range and power than the more powerful infantry rifles of the day, Wehrmacht studies had shown that most combat engagements occurred at less than 300 m with the majority within 200 m. Full-power rifle cartridges were overpowered for the vast majority of uses for the average soldier. The StG44's receiver was made of heavy stamped and welded steel as were other contemporary arms such as the MP40 and MG42. This made for a fairly heavy rifle, especially one firing an intermediate-power cartridge. Difficulties with fabrication, the need to use available non-priority steels, and the exigencies of war resulted in a heavy receiver. U.S. military intelligence criticized the weight of the weapon along with the inclusion of the fully automatic feature which it considered "ineffectual for all practical purposes."

The British were also critical saying that the receiver could be bent and the bolt locked up by the mere act of knocking a leaning rifle onto a hard floor. Many of these criticisms are more a testimonial of the Allied aversion rather than an accurate view of the weapon's characteristics which were proven during combat in the war. To its credit, it was the first weapon of its class, and the concept had a major impact on modern infantry small arms development. By all accounts, the StG44 fulfilled its role admirably, particularly on the Eastern Front, offering a greatly increased volume of fire compared to standard infantry rifles. In the end, it came too late to have a significant effect on the outcome of the war.

Why the 2nd Amendment is so essential to our freedom

The 2nd Amendment forms part of the Bill of Rights of the United States of America. This particular amendment guards the right to keep and bear arms which means that the people has the right to bear firearms and guns for their defense, their own state, or the United States, and of course to hunt game. It inhibits any law to be passed with the aim of disarming the people unless a crime has been committed, or they pose a real danger to the public. Until this day, the 2nd Amendment still stands despite the censorship of its detractors and seems that it will be staying for good under the protection of the Bill of Rights.
When it was first drafted, the idea is to have a universal militia during the 1790’s because it is very expensive for the government to bring guns to all of the members of the militia. They say that this right originated from the English courts where the king requires his subjects to bear firearms and guns for military duty. During that time, they don’t have a regular army and police force so certain men had to keep watch and ward at night to keep the peace in the communities, hence the need to keep an assault rifle and firearms in the house of certain men. These men are tasked to ward off criminals and to capture and confront suspicious persons.
The only difference is, the 2nd Amendment does not discriminate against social classes unlike with the English where only the wealthy are able to bear firearms. It should also be emphasized that in arming the militia with guns, which is a natural defense of any free country against invasions, or any uprising that will jeopardize the peace and democracy in a country, the right against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers within or outside the country can be impede and eventually discouraged. Some historians and philosophers say and believe that injustice in a country will be exerted unless forcibly resisted. Having the right to bear firearms gives the ammunition to make sure that injustice does not happen – figuratively and literally speaking.
With the advancement in technological warfare, the classes of guns supported by the 2nd amendment have also grown in number. It includes Ak47, Ar15 and M16 assault riffles. The registration procedure has also improved with all the requirements necessary for a person to get hold of a gun. There are also individuals who are prohibited from carrying a gun because the court does not see them fit to carry a firearm that may cause damage to a multitude of people. Even if the 2nd Amendment was created to further the rights and liberty of the people, it can also very easily cause the violation of the rights of people facing the other end of the barrel. Despite this possibility, the 2nd Amendment has done more good than harm to the people and the state. There are enough policies to keep it and its consequences in check. All in all, it has promoted liberty and uphold the rights of the people.
